My Current Daily Facial Skincare Favorites

My Current Skincare FavoritesLately my skin has been soft with minimal breakouts.  It’s been so nice to me and I think it’s due to the products I’ve been using.  So I wanted to share those with you.  My skin is normal to combination.  I get dry on and around my nose and oily on my chin and forehead.  My skin doesn’t break out often but if I do its on my chin, forehead, and/or nose.  My skin is far from perfect but I find that the simpler the products are the better my skin looks.

My kitty Azul was helping me photograph the products.  And by helping I mean going crazy destroying the nice display I made so I just went with it.  Because he’s cute.

I am going to list these products in the order I use them and things will be numbered….like steps. Yay! (Don’t yell at me if these steps are all off…I’m def. not a professional.  This just works for me)

1.  (Morning) Alba Botanica Hawaiian Facial Wash Deep Cleansing Coconut Milk – $10.06

Albo Botanica Hawaiian Facial Wash Deep Cleansing Coconut MilkI use this stuff to wash my face every morning when I’m in the shower.  I feel that it has a slight tingly warming effect on my face and I appreciate that.  I like that my soap understands my need for reassurance.

I bought this cleanser because I had read that it was cruelty free.  At one point I gave away or just threw away makeup and products that were not cruelty free.  I’m not as strict with myself as I would like as I still have stuff that isn’t completely cruelty free but it’s a work in progress.

Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised with this cleanser and will definitely repurchase in the future.

Alba Botanica Hawaiian Facial Wash Deep Cleansing Coconut MilkI find that this cleanser is gentle enough to not completely strip my skin but I also saw a significant improvement in my skin (for me) when I started using this product.   Like I mentioned earlier, my skin is relatively clear most of the time but I did notice that it seemed brighter and healthier looking once I started using this cleanser.

I will take a smallish amount in my hand while in the shower and clean my face as I count to 60.  Counting to 60 has really helped me in cleaning my face more thoroughly.

  1. (Evening) Simple Micellar Cleansing Water – $6.55

Simple Micellar Cleansing WaterI’m very lazy when it comes to washing my face especially at night when I’m tired and maybe had some wine (psh some….) and I just want to go to sleep.  This stuff is my savior.  This may not be a deep enough cleanser for some but for me, this is perfect.  I don’t want to dip my face in the sink with running water and get water all over me and in my hair and just be a hot mess. Whew! That was almost a rant.

I did a full review on this if you are interested.

I just take a cotton round with some of the product and wipe it thoroughly all over my face.  It feels refreshing and my skin seems cleaner.  I’m sure an actual rinse with soap or something would be a more thorough clean.  But like I said….I can’t be bothered.

2. DIY Apple Cider Vinegar and Tea Tree Oil Toner

Apple Cider Vinegar TonerPinterest made me do it.  I found this wonderful post about making your own natural toner and of course I was like gimme.  The blogger is super convincing because she said that without a toner–like the one she made–moisturizes will not sink into your skin as effectively.  So I immediately felt that my life has been a lie this whole time because I thought toners were for chumps.  Looks like I was the chump! I’m kind of kidding. You do you.

I have found that when I use this toner consistently, any current breakout I have or a even a breakout that is already healing heals so much faster.  You know those annoying little scars that happen after a zit? Yeah, on me this toner makes them go away faster.  I also like the extra cleansing step and my skin feels so much cleaner for it.

Here is the link for the blog post that has opened my eyes to so many things…mostly toner.  The ingredients are water, apple cider vinegar, and tea tree oil.   Please check out the blog post though, it’s awesome.

3. L’Occitane Sublime Essence – $52 (WHAT?)

LOccitane Essence SublimeI know, I know.  This is hella expensive.  But this was given to me as a gift and it’s from L’Occitane.  I use this as a serum and I’ve been loving it.  I threw away the box because I did not expect to absolutely love this stuff.

This sounds stupid–at least I warned you right?–but I’m not quite sure why I love this stuff so much.   I’m pretty sure I read something on the box about hydrating the skin and calming redness?  I will find more info I swear! (Check out the link–I found some info heh)

I know sometimes with L’Occitane products the scents are either overpowering or just too mature smelling for me.  But the scent with Essence Sublime is fresh and light.LOccitane Essence Sublime Bottom

But this feels really good on the skin and I feel like you don’t need much either.  My skin feels moisturized and replenished after the toner.  I think this is a huge reason why my skin feels so soft.  When I run out of this I’m not sure I will repurchase…we’ll see.  If you’re thinking about purchasing it…do your research.  On Amazon it’s like $150.  WHAT!!

4. (morning) Simple Protecting Light Moisturizer with SPF 15 – $6.87

Simple Protecting Light Moisturizer SPF 15So right now this is my favorite day time moisturizer because it has an SPF of 15.  Winning! Living at roughly 6,000 feet, I feel like I have to be extra careful in the sun because of the elevation.

I like this moisturizer because it really does hydrate my skin without feeling greasy.  I have heard that some people break out from SPF but I have not experienced any breakouts from this product.

I will use this in the mornings so I have it on during the day.  I don’t really want to smell like sunscreen when I go to sleep, so I use a different moisturizer at night.

Simple Protecting Light Moisturizer SPF 15 backOne thing to note is that it smells like sunscreen.  I have not tested the flashback from flash photography while wearing this on my face….but so far I really like it.  I’m not sure if I will repurchase once it runs out only because I would like something with a higher SPF.

4. (nighttime) Cetaphil Daily Advance Lotion – $12.26

Cetaphil Daily Advance LotionThis little darling was such a random purchase.  I wanted a face lotion that wasn’t anything fancy and this is what I picked up.  It’s pretty awesome.  It doesn’t smell like anything and it hydrates nicely without being too heavy or greasy.

I use the Cetaphil Daily Advance Lotion at night before I go to bed. I was using this heavy cream before and could not stand how it made my face feel.  I also hate it when my hair sticks to my face due to a super heavy moisturizer.   This lotion is my buddy and I’m sure I will repurchase when it’s used up.

Cetaphil Daily Advance Lotion backThe only downside I can think of is that sometimes when the bridge of my nose feels extra dry, this lotion isn’t heavy enough for that.  I also have not used this lotion in the dead of winter when my face gets random dry patches.  So that will be a nice test to put Mr. Cetaphil through.

I linked Walmart because Amazon was kind of expensive…which is weird to me.  I mean it’s a big bottle.

5. Burt’s Bees Renewal Smoothing Eye Cream – $13.80

Burt's Bees Renewal Smoothing Eye Cream (in my own jar)Obviously this is not a Burt’s Bees container.  I bought the little eye cream over a year ago and still have a tiny bit left.  The Burt’s Bees container is great and comes with a nice pump.  But I noticed that when the pump stopped working there was still a ton of product left in the little jar.  So I decided to scoop the rest of it out and slap it in a little travel section container. (Who else LOVES the travel section…all the cute little stuff!!)

I find this eye cream to be super moisturizing and it doesn’t have a scent…from what I can tell.  It’s a very thick cream so if you are struggling with a dry under eye, this eye cream will help.  I find that sometimes it’s hard to rub into the skin and of course since the skin underneath your eyes is so delicate it’s supposed to be “tapped” in.   It gets a little time-consuming when it’s such a thick eye cream.

I use this eye cream morning and night.  I am not sure if I will repurchase or not….I think I’m going to use plain ol’ coconut oil as an eye cream when this is finished.  I remember thinking it was super expensive for such a tiny little jar of eye cream but like I said this sucker has lasted me for a long time!  If you purchase this, just be sure to scrape the rest of the product out of the jar when no more comes out the pump….you’ll be surprised how much is still in there.

Aura Cacia Tea Tree Oil6. Aura Cacia Tea Tree Oil – $8.49

Like I mentioned earlier, the simpler the product, the more my face likes it.  Tea Tree oil rocks.

There are several things tea tree oil is good for but one of my favorites is putting some on a zit and seeing it dry up.  I had read to dilute it with water before applying it to your face because it can be quite harsh and drying.  I tried that but found that it did little to dry up zits.  I then tried just putting some–without diluting it with water–on a cotton swab and applying it that way.  This worked wonders.

I feel that zit creams never really work for my face.  The zits laugh in my face (get it?) and just sit there as yucky as ever as random chemicals do nothing but smell gross on my face.  So when I used tea tree oil and I actually saw breakouts dry up I was so excited.  Aura Cacia Tea Tree Oil back

Tea tree oil smells very strong so be aware of that.  I am now used to the scent and kind of enjoy it but at first I was kind of worried about smelling weird.  Another thing to be aware of is over-applying it to breakouts.   One time I kept applying it past when the zit was drying up a bit beacuse I didn’t want the darned thing to come back.  My skin started to get sore and dry–like really dry–in that area so don’t over do it.  I would also suggest doing your research on quality tea tree oils…usually the cheaper the lower the quality.

So instead of using a zip zapping cream, I put a little dot of tea tree oil on breakouts and it has really been working for me.

Let me know if you have ever used any of these products and how they worked for you.  Also what are your skincare favorites? Thanks for reading!
